EMTM Special Interest Group
Executive Master's in Technology Management
Focusing on the intersection of technology and business
As a major step forward in our initiative to augment the benefits of our Club through special interest groups (SIGs), the Wharton Club of New Jersey is pleased to announce the formation of a SIG focused on the intersection of technology and business. In general, SIGs will allow members to coordinate and participate in smaller, more intimate events, and help develop and encourage more networking among members. Specifically, we are excited to welcome the EMTM-NJ alumni group and its members as they officially decided at their mid-January meeting to restructure their organization within the SIG framework.
If you don’t know EMTM, you should. Part of the Wharton family, it is the Executive Masters in Technology Management degree from Penn Engineering co-sponsored by Wharton. The program combines state-of-the-art management practice with insights into emerging technologies in Biopharma, IT, Telecommunications, Nanotechnology, and other fields that are driving global innovation and change. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a business that wouldn’t benefit from connecting with someone at the forefront of changing technology with business skills to match.
You may have already met EMTM alumni at past WCNJ events as several people have been active members of both organizations. As a SIG, the group will maintain its identity and autonomy while the broader WCNJ membership will gain the benefit of networking with this group of experts. The increased exposure also means that EMTM events will be part of the WCNJ calendar (check out the WCNJ Events Calendar for upcoming receptions and watch for the announcement of the next EMTM-SIG event).
And the EMTM-SIG is only the beginning. Both a Careers in Transition SIG and a Central Jersey SIG will be launching in February and more will be organizing in coming months. The Careers in Transition SIG will have its inaugural meeting in early February. We are frequently in search of new employment opportunities, whether it’s branching out on our own or moving to a new organization. Members of this SIG will have a network of peers and guidance from HR managers to help in that transition. We are also in the process of developing a group in the New Brunswick – Princeton area to satisfy widespread interest to coordinate some events further north and south of the Morris/Essex County hub of our activity. The first meeting is being planned for late February.
If you’re ready to get involved in any SIG, contact Kimberlyn Dennis-Smith (the Club’s SIGs Coordinator, part of the Programming & Events Committee). Join one of the specific SIGs announced above, or initiate a group in the northern geography, or get involved with a SIG focused on a specific industry, or small business owners. Additionally, SIGs may be centered on such hobbies as wine-tasting, reading (a book club), theater, or cooking. The options abound and are limited only by the interests, needs, and desires of the WCNJ members.
