The HollywoodWay: Selling Ideas Through Storytelling

Date: August 13th 5:30-9:30pm/ August 14th 9:00am-1:00pm,
NOTE: This workshop is Two Four hour sessions.

In an exclusive venture with the Wharton Club of NJ, three time Academy Award winning producer/writer Jana Sue Memel offers The HollywoodWay , a unique storytelling workshop focusing on presentation and communication skills. In this workshop, Memel translates Hollywood storytelling skills which enabled her to produce eleven Oscar nominated films and sell over sixty others into practical, easy to learn, business world processes.

To make a lasting impact on your audience your presentation has got to hook them early and hold on to them throughout. "Bore your audience and they are going to leave the room even if only metaphorically," Memel says. The HollywoodWay will teach you to use words to paint pictures in the audience’s mind so that they connect with your message on a visceral level. “Get your audience to see what you’re saying and they’ll be able to remember it, repeat it and want to act on it. The barriers to being an effective presenter are in your head.” The HollywoodWay will teach you how to remove the roadblocks, relate to the audience, and leave them wanting to hear more from you.

In this eight hour communication clinic, Memel will work one-on-one with every participant, first diagnosing their current storytelling skills, then guiding them through a series of individual and group exercises to build on their pre-existing skill set. Special attention will be paid to each participant’s unique professional development goals in taking the workshop. Working in a group environment will allow participants to tell stories and gauge their effect on audiences by replicating real world presentation experiences. Each participant will have the opportunity to story tell at least four times over the course of the workshop with feedback from Memel after every round of storytelling. In order to facilitate appropriate individual focus, Registration is limited to 16 participants, so if you’re interested register early!

Participants will emerge from the experience better communicators, more confident in their own skills with solid empirical evidence to back up that confidence.

Once you’ve gone through this workshop you’ll want everyone in your company to learn how to communicate in this fluid, engaging format so that meetings become something to look forward to rather than something to hide from.

Agenda: Prior to the first workshop and between the first and second workshop a small amount of preparation will be required. The first workshop will take place from 5:30pm-9:30pm on Friday, August 13th (including a light dinner). The second will take place from 9:am to 1:00pm on Saturday, August 14th (including bagels/muffins for breakfast).

Pricing: SOLD OUT

There will be no walk-in pricing; participation is limited to WCNJ members and their guests.  Note that regular pricing for this event is $250; Jana is offering the workshop through a special connection to the Wharton club at a breakeven rate as an East Coast introductory offer.
