Financial Reform is the critical economic development of our time. The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act has been variously critiqued as being both too little (in scope and likely impact) and too much (certainly in word count and arguably in substance). Independent of one’s views of the road to financial reform to date or of particular provisions of the evolving law of reform, the importance of the subject cannot be overstated, and the potential impact on American and global business and finance is enormous.

In this presentation, Marshall Sonenshine, renowned and independent investment banker and adjunct Professor of Finance and Economics at Columbia University, will trace the:

Marshall  Sonenshine is Chairman and Managing Partner of New York Investment Banking Firm Sonenshine Partners and Adjunct Professor of Finance and Economics at Columbia University Business School.  He is formerly banking partner to Paul Volcker and James Wolfensohn at Wolfensohn & Co, General Partner in Bankers Trust and Deutsche Bank.  He has lectured at Wharton and has been a featured speaker on financial reform at  Harvard Law School’s Annual Leadership Conference.  Mr. Sonenshine is a veteran adviser on many of the largest or most colorful deals of our time, from Disney / ABC to Sony / Columbia Pictures to AIG / International Lease Finance to General Electric Capital Corporation / GPA Group plc to the hostile defense and ultimate breakup of the United States Shoe Corporation to the current restructuring of the Philadelphia Newspaper Group.  He has counseled clients in virtually every geographic region of the world and every industry, from Alcoa in metals and mining to US West in Telecommunications to Sears, Borders Books and LensCrafters in retailing to Dun and Bradstreet and Proquest in Business Information to Tata Sons in global business to ING Group in Financial Services. Mr. Sonenshine is currently working on a book on the reshaping of finance and its likely impact on the real economy and is a frequent speaker on financial markets and global corporate strategy.  Mr. Sonenshine is a graduate magna cum laude of Brown University and holds a JD from Harvard Law School, where he served as an Editor of the Harvard Law Review.  He has worked in banking for a quarter century.
