THE EVENT

The Wharton Club of New Jersey has planned a special event for the night of Thursday, October 8, 2015, at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, NJ.  We will celebrate those who have contributed their time and talents to the club as volunteers and we will explore the virtues of volunteering.

You should attend if:

  • You volunteered your time and effort to WCNJ
  • You are curious about, or interested in, volunteering your talents to WCNJ
  • You want to know what it takes to become a not-for-profit Board member

We encourage all those club members to attend who have been active with the club either as volunteers or as attendees at our events of all types.  We also encourage attendance by those members who may not as yet have volunteered, but are inclined to do so, and even those members who may have such inclinations but don’t even know it yet!  In other words, we encourage ALL club members to attend.

THE FINANCIAL REWARD

The pricing for this event will in itself be special to make clear our commitment to arouse the interest of all members.  The event will be priced at $15, which will be REFUNDED to all attendees upon arrival at the event!  You can’t beat FREE!   The event will include a cocktail hour and dinner and a speaker who has built a career in the management of charitable enterprises.

OUR SPEAKER

Our speaker for this event will be Janet Horowitz, Managing Director of the Enright Melanoma Foundation located in Summit, NJ.  Janet will talk to us about board membership: what it is, what it requires, how to achieve it and, most important, how it enhances the lives of those who choose to do it.

Janet Horowitz is a community service professional with over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit, education and corporate sectors.   She has a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Organization Management from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Ithaca College.
Janet has vast experience in fundraising, resource development, volunteer management, nonprofit board management, marketing and public relations.  Since March 2013, she has served as the Executive Director for the Enright Melanoma Foundation, a doctor-led, prevention-focused nonprofit organization with a mission to raise sun safety awareness and to help prevent melanoma through education and early detection.

On the corporate side, she served for 10 years as the Assistant Vice President of Community Affairs at The CIT Group in Livingston, overseeing volunteer initiatives and the company foundation.  On the nonprofit side, she has been the Director of Development for both local and national organizations, including Family Service of Morris County, New Jersey After 3, Anti-Defamation League of NJ, and the National Council of Jewish Women.  Janet has done private consulting, and is the creator of a resource group called EDSNP – Executive Directors of Small Non-Profits.   In addition, Janet helped to form the grassroots organization The Parent Resource Network in her hometown of Rockaway Township, NJ.
