Mr. Poisel has built several innovative programs such as UPstart, UPadvisors, DeveUPmed and AppitUP, fostering a strong culture of entrepreneurship around UPenn’s research activities.
Mr. Poisel will speak about “The Entrepreneurial Programs of PCI Ventures” and share with us the efforts at PCI Ventures to build companies from university inventions, the various programs mentioned above, and ways to get involved.
This is an event you don’t want to miss!
The Penn Center for Innovation (PCI) translates Penn discoveries and ideas into new products and businesses for the benefit of society. It does this by facilitating technology development connections between Penn and the private sector. Whether the end result is a technology license, an R&D alliance, the formation of a new venture or an integrated combination of any or all of these activities, PCI serves as a dedicated one-stop shop for commercial partnering with Penn.
PCI is also developing and repurposing land and buildings in and around the UPENN campus for the purpose of developing an innovation community. These innovation communities are “one stop shop” communities which provide everything that companies & people need to thrive, including: connectivity, transportation, community/social activities, housing, etc - all within short distances of each other. These innovation communities will be a main impetus for growth in Philadelphia over the coming years.
The UPstart program at PCI Ventures provides the means and support to UPenn faculty and staff to launch businesses, based on their promising research. Other programs besides Upstart at PCI Ventures are:
- AppitUP: a mobile application idea challenge designed to gather the best app ideas from the Penn community and connect them with the funding and technical expertise necessary to make them a reality.
- DevelUPmed Challenge: a program that identifies medical device and diagnostic technologies with commercial potential and accelerates them from idea to prototype stage and beyond through a startup company mechanism.
- UPadvisors: a program which provides mentoring advice from the PCI Ventures team, access to preferred partners who are willing to work for deferred fees, and access to marketing opportunities for the company through PCI Ventures events.
